Flooring we want for Christmas - and next year, too!

Christmas is very nearly upon us and while stockings are being filled and lists finalised, we look back on some of our favourite flooring – what’s been popular this year and what we think should be on everyone’s flooring wish list for 2018.  We also have some very exciting new things coming next year, so keep your eye on our website and social media channels for news about those!

And look out for the #hashtags throughout this blog post, which we have used so you can see more pictures on Twitter or Facebook of the flooring featured and mentioned here!

Yes, you read that right - laminate flooring that’s water resistant and ideal for kitchen and bathroom environments.  We have installed a lot of Quick-Step waterproof laminate to open plan kitchens over the last year.  As well as being incredibly practical, the wood detail is very authentic so there’s no need to compromise on style and of course laminate is good for your budget, especially if you’re looking at a large area.  The good news for 2018 is that Quick-Step have extended their range of waterproof laminate flooring to include a third collection.  So, as well as their biggest ever plank Majestic and the best-selling, bevel-edged Impressive, now the Eligna range has been revamped to include Quick-Step’s water-repellent HydroSeal coating, coming in a choice of twenty styles and with no bevel for a smooth, seamless finish.

Still as popular as ever, parquet flooring has made a big impression on homes this past year, and that’s seen us lay a lot of parquet blocks in both LVT (luxury vinyl tile) and engineered hardwood format.  Whether in hallways or carried through from the hall to an open plan kitchen space, parquet flooring brings an element of grandeur and refined style to any room and we don’t see the demand for it reducing any time soon.
The herringbone and chevron laying patterns are our most popular, especially in the Amtico Signature range where the huge choice of wood and stone tiles can be laid as parquet, allowing you to create a floor unique to you.
Karndean Design Flooring have released a couple of new colours and styles in their Art Select range for 2018.  This has been done so you can continue the colour of your parquet floor in the hallway, through to an adjoining room where you might go for a plank laying pattern, without breaking up the colour of the wood, allowing a seamless finish.  You can see the new Karndean Art Select samples in all our showrooms.

Much like last year, it will be all about the patterns with carpets for 2018.  Move over plain greys and neutrals, eye-catching patterns and layouts help to make a statement in rooms and turn your home into a real showstopper.  From geometrics to florals, tartans to stripes and even designer patterns thanks to collaborations between fabric and interior designers and carpet manufacturer Alternative Flooring, there are some exciting patterned carpets to be had.  So, ditch the patterned wallpaper and opt for a plain wall to make the floor your centrepiece!  We’ve done some exciting patterned carpet installations over the last year, so remember to check the hashtag #patternedcarpet on Twitter or Facebook to see more examples.

No, we’re not talking door mats, this is high quality, luxury flooring that can stay outside all year long and help extend your living space during the warmer months.  Ideal for decking which can get slippery, outdoor flooring provides a safe surface to walk, exercise or play on and can withstand the elements.  If you are looking to accessorise any outdoor living space, after all outside is the new inside when the weather’s good, then you should consider either the woven vinyl flooring from Unnatural Flooring, or new from Alternative Flooring for 2018, the 100% polypropylene ‘Anywhere’ faux carpets.

Unnatural Flooring has the look and feel of natural flooring but with the practicality and durability of a woven vinyl.  While, Anywhere have the visual textual of sisal but are made from 100% polypropylene and are extremely hardwearing
Both can also be used inside the home too, and are ideal for kitchen and bathroom environments, unlike a natural sisal.

If you’re looking for patterned flooring for your home, it need not only be carpet you choose.  Luxury vinyl design flooring is a great alternative if you want to create patterns with a hard floor for areas like the hallway, bathroom or even the kitchen.  And we are really excited to be bringing a new collection of luxury vinyl tiles to our flooring portfolio next year, with Harvey Maria flooring.  Harvey Maria work with some of Britain’s best-loved designers, including modern vintage Cath Kidston to bring an inspirational range of flooring designs and patterns.  We will be refurbishing our Knutsford showroom over the Christmas period, so you can see Harvey Maria flooring in all its glory, alongside other new flooring collections too.
